Quand on évoque Les Sables d'Olonne, on pense immédiatement à Port Olonna, point de départ du Vendée Globe, la promenade du Remblai, la Grande Plage et ses 3 km de sable fin ou encore son célèbre zoo. Mais la "Perle de la Côte de Lumière" abrite d'autres lieux atypiques, plus ou moins connus, qui méritent pourtant le détour. La Chaume, le plus ancien quartier des Sables-d'Olonne Situé à l'entrée du port, le quartier de La Chaume est le berceau historique de la cité sablaise. C'est ici que bat le coeur des Sables d'Olonne. Le vieux village fut rattaché à la ville des Sables-d'Olonne lors de la signature d'un arrêté royal le 7 août 1754. On peut y visiter le Prieuré Saint-Nicolas, une ancienne chapelle du XIe siècle dédiée à Saint-Nicolas patron des marins pêcheurs et des bateliers et la tour d'Arundel, bâtie XVe siècle par les princes de Talmont. Le donjon carré de l'ancien château Saint-Clair abrite aujourd'hui le Musée de la Mer. L'occasion aussi de découvrir le Phare de l'Armandèche, le dernier grand phare construit en France, la côte sauvage, la plage de la Paracou et son ancienne écluse à poissons. La ville des Sables-d'Olonne possède son lot de rues atypiques dont le nom laisse rêveur, telles la rue Monteapeine, la rue Rapide ou la rue Trompeuse. Il y en a une qui bat cependant un record du monde. Il s'agit de la rue la plus étroite. À son endroit le plus étroit, sa largeur n'est que de 40 cm.
